accommodation and things to do in Inverloch, Wonthaggi, Kilcunda and Cape Paterson
On the Way: Kilcunda
If you're headed our way from Melbourne, the coastal route along the Bass Highway offers breathtaking views into Bass Strait and the opportunity to break your drive while indulging in the area's best hospitality.
We highly recommend stopping at Udder and Hoe for lunch, drinks, or dinner or just to pick up some local produce to take with you. It's the perfect place to grab a delicious meal and get a taste of the region's best food and drink.
A Day Trip West: Inverloch & Cape Paterson
If you're up for a day trip, follow the coastline west a short drive from the River Drive Motel and you'll come across the coastal city of Inverloch. Busiest during the summer months, Inverloch offers sheltered beach access to Anderson's Inlet as well as a patrolled surf beach with an excellent, consistent break. As the largest beachside city in the area, Inverloch also features heaps of quality cafes and restaurants. Our personal favorite lunch spot is Dirty Three Wines.
Head further west along the coast towards Cape Paterson for access to another excellent patrolled surf beach or stop along the way to explore the caves and rock pools dotted along the stunning coastline.
Head north from Cape Paterson and you'll come across the regional city of Wonthaggi, which has a heap of quality vintage stores, local produce, parks, and cafes.
